2011 fitness trends revealed

2011 fitness trends revealed

11 November 2010 12:00

A list of the top trends in the fitness industry predicted for 2011 have been published by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), which could be of interest to those investing in new gym clothing.

It is thought that a greater focus will be put on ensuring that people get fitness advice from educated and experienced professionals next year.

In a survey conducted by the ACSM, many respondents said that professionals in the industry should be regulated in the same way that physicians, lawyers and pharmacists are.

As for trends that have been favoured in the past but have now dropped off in popularity, balance training, stability balls and Pilates are all examples.

However, another trend that it is thought will grow in popularity next year is fitness programmes for older adults.

Last month, Lisa Milbrand wrote in a piece for Arthritis Today Magazine that older people should try out a number of different gyms using free trials before they settle for one and commit to a contract.
