Those attempting the Great North Run for the first time this year have been advised to now start training seriously in their men's and women's running wear.
Fitness expert and personal trainer David Fairlamb wrote in his column in the Journal that people should attempt an hour-long cycle ride, claiming that this will allow their bodies to become used to training for an extended period of time.
He then recommended people to do between five and eight one-minute interval workouts with 45 to 60 seconds rest in between.
"Try to keep the same pace on each interval. It's all about knowing your body and working to your own level," Mr Fairlamb wrote.
He advised that this could be completed outside by running, walking and cycling or inside on any cardio machine.
Some 54,000 runners are set to take place in the Great North Run this year, which will take place in Sunderland on September 19th.
