The average woman only dons her ladies fitness clothing and exercises twice a week for 25 minutes a time, a study has suggested.
Research conducted by OnePoll for Weight Watchers revealed that the average Brit is seated for 14 hours and 39 minutes every day and is, therefore, not getting their daily 30 minutes of exercise that the government recommends.
The survey of 3,000 people found that the typical working adult spends four hours and 17 minutes at their desk and a further two hours and 27 minutes sat watching television.
Zoe Hellman, company dietician for Weight Watchers UK Ltd said that the recession has caused people to work longer hours and, therefore, reduced the amount of free time women have to don their ladies fitness wear and get active.
She explained that there are many forms of exercise that can be fitted into even the busiest person's daily routine.
"Walking up the stairs instead of taking the lift, parking further from the shops, walking for 30 minutes at lunchtime instead of sitting at the desk are all free and easy ways of keeping fit," Ms Hellman said.
Research from mySupermarket.co.uk recently revealed that the price of slimming products, such as those made by Weight Watchers, has increased by 28 per cent since 2008.
