A review of a number of medical studies has confirmed the benefits of donning ladies fitness clothing and exercising outdoors, as opposed to inside.

The team from the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry analysed studies and concluded that this sort of exercise improves both mental and physical wellbeing in a number of ways.

This team was supported by the National Institute of Health Research's Peninsula Collaboration in Leadership for Applied Health Research and Care (PenClahrc).

Dr Jo Thompson-Coon, PenClahrc research fellow, said: "We have added strength to the link between mental and physical wellbeing and outdoor exercise, but further research and longer, tailor-made and focused trials are needed to better understand this link."

The findings of the review have been published in the research journal Environmental Science and Technology.

In the London borough of Camden, eight outdoor gyms have been created in order to help people to exercise in a natural environment.
