Today is Breast Health Day so Europa Donna (ED), The European Breast Cancer Coalition, is informing women and girls across Europe about breast health and raising awareness of prevention and early detection of breast cancer.
According to the Guide to Breast Health, published by ED, growing evidence supports that there is a protective association between physical activity and breast cancer, preferably over a lifetime, but probably beneficial even if begun after menopause.
Inactivity is estimated to cause between ten and 16 per cent of all breast cancer cases and inactivity coupled with excess body weight account for nearly 33 per cent of all breast cancer cases.
The guide said that women should change into their women's fitness wear and engage in moderate exercise for at least 30 to 60 minutes every day.
ED is an independent non-profit organisation whose members are affiliated groups from countries throughout Europe.
It works to raise awareness of breast cancer and to mobilise the support of European women in pressing for improved breast cancer education, appropriate screening, optimal treatment and increased funding for research.
