Hester Goodsell and Sophie Hosking led the British qualifiers in the women's field in the double sculls on day two of the World Rowing Championships in Poznan, Poland.
The pair stayed ahead of the Australian team from start to finish to win the race, in what will prove a confidence booster for them as they had not come against the opponents yet this year.
Goodsell commented in her ladies fitness wear after the race that she was pleased with the pair's performance, which secured a semi-final place on Friday (August 28th).
"We were pleased with today. It felt like Tideway conditions today. Gusts and everything. It was a case of weather management out there and I think we did well," she said.
However, she went on to say that she could not describe the performance as perfect, adding that they have a lot of work to do to prepare for the semi-final.
Meanwhile, the British women's quadruple scull of Katy Greves, Beth Rodford, Sarah Cowburn and Ro Bradbury came second to the Ukraine in their heat, putting in their best performance of the year and beating the favourites Germany.
