The Blood Pressure Association is asking adults across the nation to have their blood pressure tested as it launches this year's Know your Numbers!, the UK's biggest blood pressure testing event.
High blood pressure affects one in three UK adults and the symptom-less condition is known as a silent killer, as sufferers are often unaware that they have it.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure is the biggest cause of strokes and a major cause of heart disease and kidney disease.
The Blood Pressure Association recommends frequent exercise to regulate blood pressure, such as a 30 minute run or walk five times a week in women's fitness wear.
Mike Rich, executive director of the Blood Pressure Association, said: "The good news is that once detected, there's lots you can do to lower your blood pressure, and your risk of stroke and heart attack."
This week around 1,500 venues nationwide, known as Pressure Stations, will be offering free blood pressure checks.
