Cycling and brisk walks in ladies fitness wear 'reduces weight gain'

Pre-menopausal women who want to avoid gaining weight should put on their ladies fitness clothing and go for regular bike rides or brisk walks, a recent study has suggested.

Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston found that overweight and obese women are most likely to benefit from these forms of exercise.

It was also discovered that slower walking does not appear to offer the same benefits as walking at a fast pace.

"The mean [average] weight gain was the smallest in women who engaged in four hours a week or more of bicycling compared with women who bicycled for less time," the study authors explained.

This research was published in the June 28th issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Earlier this month, Helen Pidd, author of Bicycle: Love Your Bike - The Complete Guide to Everyday Cycling, told the Daily Telegraph that many people are put off cycling by the thought of having to wear Lycra.

She assured, however, this was not necessary and that comfortable, breathable clothing is all that is needed.
