Dance classes to improve north-east women's fitness

22 January 2010 10:40

Ladies' sportswear will be needed during a new initiative in the north-east aiming to improve women's fitness levels.

Durham County Council's Active Women project and the Nouveau Dance Company have joined forces to launch a new dance scheme at East Durham College, the Hartlepool Mail reports.

Bethany Ainsley will co-ordinate the six-week programme, which looks to boost the fitness levels of local females aged 16 to 25.

"We will be running a number of groups across the Easington area and the women who take part will have the chance to form a dance group with Nouveau Dance," she told the newspaper.

Sessions for those with appropriate women's sportswear are schedule for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Elsewhere, a recent Skinny Cow poll revealed that the average woman burns 48,000 calories each year during their shopping trips, with 132 visits to the town centre made every 12 months.

It was discovered that, on average, ladies shop for clothes twice a month, go on five food shops and visit the local corner shop four times.
