Seniors can improve their balance and gait by donning their men's or women's fitness wear and taking part in dance sessions, two recent studies have shown.
Researchers at the University of Missouri found that seniors who participated in dance-based therapy experienced improved functionality, which can decrease their risk of falls and injuries.
Jean Krampe, a registered nurse and doctoral student in the Sinclair School of Nursing, said: "We found that many seniors are eager to participate and continue to come back after attending sessions because they really enjoy it."
She went on to say that nursing and eldercare professionals could reduce the detrimental burden caused by falls by bringing these programmes into practice.
According to the NHS, dancing is a great way to keep fit and help joints to remain flexible.
It recommends dance as an exercise as it can also lower the risk of heart disease, stroke and some major cancers.
