Getting dehydrated when running a marathon in ladies' sportswear is not as big a problem as many people think, it has been claimed.
Speaking to the Times ahead of this weekend's London Marathon, Queen Mary University sports medicine specialist Dr Courtney Kipps explained that it is not likely to lead to death.
She reassured runners: "Getting dehydrated in a marathon is not a serious problem.
"Yes, you will get tired and probably have to stop, but you won't die from dehydration in the race."
Despite the grueling slog it entails, many women love putting on their women's fitness wear for the annual London Marathon, which Julia Kaye, of depression support group Journeys, believes acts as a natural mood lifter.
She explained that running can be incorporated into many people's depression treatments to help raise moods.
"Medication alone doesn't work. It's more likely to work in conjunction with various self-help techniques," she added.
