Ditch gym wear for new exercise trend: Water yoga

Women keen to find an alternative exercise may want to ditch their ladies fitness wear in favour of a swimming costume to take part in a new craze - water yoga.

This form of the Indian meditation can be more challenging than standard yoga as the resistance created by the water calls for greater strength, according to the Times of India.

However, it can also make some poses, or asanas, easier as the hydrostatic pressure supports the body in every direction.

Harish Chaturvedi, who is a lawyer by profession, teaches water yoga free of charge as a hobby.

"The level of oxygen is very high in water and so when you practice water yoga, all your breathing problems will disappear," said Mr Chaturvedi.

Earlier this year Olivia Walmsley, a writer for the Telegraph, tried out a session of Poolates - an aquatic version of Pilates.

She said the exercise was "very gentle, although I did feel my body working".
