Don ladies fitness wear and exercise to combat type 2 diabetes

18 March 2010 15:00

Those with type 2 diabetes may want to invest in some new ladies fitness wear, as a recent study has suggested that exercise and a healthy diet are beneficial to people with the disease.

Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the research reveals that the two most common drug treatments for those with type 2 diabetes may not be the most beneficial courses of action.

Dr Victoria King, research manager at Diabetes UK, said: "The front-line of defence for someone at risk of type 2 diabetes would be diet and exercise treatment."

She went on to say that this has shown to be "most effective in delaying or preventing the progression" of the disease.

Earlier this month, research published in the Journal of Physiology revealed that the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the first place can be reduced by taking part in short interval training sessions.

The study found that this sort of training can produce the same health benefits as longer exercise sessions.
