Women who want to improve their brain power should consider donning their ladies running wear and heading out for a jog, as aerobic exercise has been shown to stimulate the brain to grow new cells.
Neuroscientists at Cambridge University found that running can increase cognitive function, but a British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES) accredited exercise physiologist believes that the same could be said for any aerobic exercise.
"If the evidence is correct, then these benefits will also apply to any physical activity that is performed at similar weekly frequencies, durations and intensities that engage large muscle groups in rhythmical fashion," said Dr John Buckley.
He went on to say that this could include cycling, swimming, rowing, and aerobics but said those with lower levels of fitness should try brisk walking, as this is also likely to be beneficial.
Women who want to don their ladies fitness wear and take up an aerobic exercise should try cycling as it is low-impact but works the lower body and cardiovascular system, according to the NHS.
