An enzyme found in melons can reduce stress and fatigue, according to a French study.
Melons contain the enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD), which is rich in antioxidants.
The study, published in BioMed Central's open access Nutrition Journal, links the absorption of antioxidants with a person's ability to resist burn-out and fatigue.
Researchers found SOD significantly improved signs and symptoms of stress and fatigue linked to performance physical problems (pain, sleep troubles), cognitive problems (concentration, weariness, sleep troubles) or behavioural problems (attitude, irritability, difficulty of contact).
In the same way, quality of life and perceived stress were found to significantly improve with SOD supplementation.
