Over the next five years, researchers in Alberta will conduct a number of projects aiming to assess the effects of exercise, perhaps in ladies fitness clothing, on breast cancer.
Dr Kerry Courneya of the University of Alberta will lead the research, which has been granted C$2.5 million (£1.54 million) by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
"The really novel aspect of this study is the link between physical activity and fitness and disease outcomes. There has been limited research examining those outcomes," said Dr Courneya.
She went on to explain that the research projects will focus on the potential role of physical activity in aiding the completion of treatment, alleviating the side-effects and increasing recovery.
They will also examine exercise's role in improving long-term quality of life and reducing the risks of disease recurrence and premature death.
Earlier this month, research from the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Arthur G James Cancer Hospital and the Richard J Solove Research Institute, suggested that exercise can curb cancer growth.
