Young women who want to perform better in their ladies sportswear can do so by consuming energy drinks, a study has suggested.
Sports scientists from the University of Edinburgh found that those aged between 12 and 14 can play for longer in team games when they drink an isotonic sports drink before and during the exercise.
"The consumption of a carbohydrate-electrolyte solution was found to significantly enhance endurance capacity during simulated games play, and this could contribute to improved performance in adolescents," explained Dr John Sproule, head of the Institute of Sport, Physical Education and Health Sciences at the University of Edinburgh's Moray House School of Education.
Last month, Stephanie Ballard, assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Nova Southeastern University's West Palm Beach campus said that it is the caffeine in energy drinks that help people to exercise for longer.
However, she warned that this ingredient has been linked to insomnia, nervousness, arrhythmias and osteoporosis.
