The English women's football team lost 6-2 in their white women's sportswear to Germany last night in the final of the Uefa European Women's Championship.
Germany scored the first two goals of the game but it was Karen Carney who scored England's first in the 24th minute.
England captain Faye White, who played in a mask having broken her cheekbone in the quarter-final against Finland, told Uefa that she found Carney an inspiration.
"She inspires me by her determination and will to win," she said.
White also said that Carney is "technically gifted" and can play with both feet: "She's just very good on the ball," she added.
England's second goal was scored by 30-year-old Kelly Smith in the second half of the game, which took place at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Finland.
The odds were stacked against the English team as Germany had won the European tournament six times previously and the Fifa Women's World Cup twice.
England's coach, Hope Powell, said: "I think this will make the girls hungrier next time and one day it will be our day."
