A DVD that encourages Parkinson's sufferers to don their men's and ladies fitness clothing and exercise has been launched.
Titled Exercise and Parkinson's: Questions and Answers from the Experts, the DVD has been created by the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's.
A panel of experts in the fields of physical therapy and exercise physiology feature on the DVD, answering common questions about keeping fit while suffering from Parkinson's disease.
They highlight the fact that exercise is important as a core strategy for living well at all stages of Parkinson's and at any age.
One of the experts featured on the DVD, Dr Terry Ellis, of Boston University, said: "The growing body of scientific evidence strongly demonstrates the effectiveness of exercise as an essential tool for maintaining balance, mobility and daily quality of life."
He went on to say there is also a possibility that exercise could protect nerve cells and slow disease progression in the brain.
The Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's was founded in 2004 and aims to improve the day-to-day lives of those suffering from the disease.
