Women suffering from depression should consider donning their ladies fitness clothing and exercising more, an expert on the condition has claimed.
Catherine Tsiboukas, vice-chair of the charity Journeys Toward Recovery, said that, so long as it is used as part of a broader treatment or management programme, exercise can really help people to lift their mood.
"Depression is a serious and potentially disabling condition that can be treated through a mix of medication, self-help and/or therapy," Ms Tsiboukas clarified.
She went on to say that "there is no magic bullet" that will cure the condition, but that with the help of doctors, therapists and/or care providers, people can find the treatment that is right for them.
Her comments follow the recent publication of a study conducted by Yale University, in the journal Nature Medicine.
The researchers involved in the study discovered a gene that could be a key contributor to the onset of depression.
They claim that this discovery could lead to a more successful new class of antidepressants.
