Elderly women who want to reduce their risk of falling should consume more Vitamin D and exercise regularly in their ladies fitness clothing.
This is according to updated guidance from the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), which states that falls are a leading cause of death and injury among people aged 65 and over.
USPSTF researchers reviewed more than 50 clinical trials to determine the advantages and disadvantages of a number of primary care interventions used to prevent falls in older adults.
They found that exercise and Vitamin D supplements are the best ways to reduce the risk of falling.
Other things that were found to help reduce falls included medication assessment and withdrawal, home hazard modification and behavioural counselling.
An analysis of the study is to be published along with conclusions in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.
Earlier in the year, a study published in the journal BMC Research Notes revealed that osteoporosis sufferers can reduce their risk of sustaining fractures by taking part in martial arts classes.
