Those who are donning their ladies fitness clothing and embarking on a serious exercise regime should take it easy at first, an expert has suggested.
Dr Christian Jessen, presenter of Channel 4's Embarrassing Illnesses and Supersize vs Superskinny, said that people should not set themselves unachievable tasks.
"Don't set yourself unrealistic goals - don't try to lose three stone in three weeks, because it's not going to happen," he said.
The doctor went on to suggest that people should start by doing simple activities such as walking up stairs, rather than using lifts, more often.
He said that these little things all help people to lose their weight and will increase their fitness too.
Those who are trying to shed a few pounds should also try drinking two glasses of water before each meal, according to researchers from Virginia Tech University.
They conducted a study which found that those who drank two cups of water before eating a meal consumed between 75 and 90 fewer calories.
