Women wanting to ward off the symptoms of dementia should don their ladies fitness clothing and exercise more, an expert has claimed.
Professor June Andrews, director of the Dementia Services Development Centre at the University of Stirling, said that a good diet and socialising can help to hold back these symptoms as well.
"Making some changes in your living environment like increasing light levels also helps," she added.
Her comments follow the publication of a report from the Alzheimer's Society, which found that 50,000 people with dementia are being forced out of their own properties early due to inadequate home-based care.
Professor Andrews said that a lot of health and social care workers do not know about the many things that people can do to help them stay out of care homes.
She said that doing things that are good for the heart, such as aerobic exercise, can help those suffering with Alzheimer's disease.
