Exercise in gym clothing is just one lifestyle factor that can influence a woman's risk of developing breast cancer, a study has suggested.
Scientists of the German Cancer Research Center and Hamburg Eppendorf University Hospitals set out to find as many risk factors as they could that can be influenced by changes in lifestyle and behaviour.
The areas they focused on included taking hormone replacement therapy, physical activity, over-eating and alcohol consumption.
"Of the modifiable lifestyle factors, it is primarily hormone replacement therapy and a lack of physical activity which increase a woman's risk of developing breast cancer," a summary of the study reveals.
Alcohol consumption and being overweight were found to have less influence on this risk.
Earlier this month, Dr Marilyn Glenville, a nutritionist specialising in women's health, said that eating a healthy diet is also important in preventing cancer.
She emphasised the importance of eating vegetables and getting adequate amounts of vitamin D.
