Those that regularly slip into women's gym clothing for exercise can benefit from a beauty boost too, it has been claimed.

Commenting in an article for the Herald, celebrity Irish fitness trainer Pat Henry explained that exercise has anti-ageing benefits, as well as improving skin and hair.

He told the newspaper: "Weight training releases HGH - human growth hormones. This gives you a natural high and is good for your skin tone, and hair.

"The only exercise you need to do in relation to the anti-ageing programme is a 45-minute session, three times a week."

Mr Henry, who has coached Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley among others, said that diets are not the answer to an improved physique.

His comments follow claims by Dr Timothy Church, who recently conducted a study examining the impact of gym work on weight loss.
