Women should don their ladies fitness clothing and exercise regularly as doing so can reduce their risk of developing endometrial cancer.
This was suggested in a presentation at the Ninth Annual American Association for Cancer Research Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research Conference held in Philadelphia at the weekend.
Hannah Arem, a doctoral student at Yale School of Public Health, and her colleagues examined data on 668 women with endometrial cancer and 665 women without the disease.
Those who exercised for at least 150 minutes a week had a 34 per cent reduced risk of developing endometrial cancer compared with women who were inactive.
"Clearly, programmes should be in place to increase the level of physical activity in women," said Ms Arem.
Last month, a study published by the British Medical Journal suggested that the number of bowel cancer cases diagnosed in the UK could be reduced by almost a quarter if people exercised more and adopted other healthy lifestyle interventions.
