Many women who have lost weight find it difficult to keep the weight off, but researchers at the University of Missouri have found that exercising during weight regain can maintain improvements in metabolic health and disease risk.
The study found that metabolic health deteriorated in those who did not don their gym wear and exercise during weight regain, while it did not in those who took part in physical exercise.
Tom Thomas, professor in the department of nutrition and exercise physiology in the College of Human Environmental Sciences and leader of the study, said: "The findings of this study indicate that regaining weight is very detrimental - however, exercise can counter those negative effects."
"The findings support the recommendation to continue exercising after weight loss, even if weight is regained," he added.
According to the NHS, those wanting to lose weight should first work out their BMI and then choose a healthy diet that includes five portion fruit and veg a day.
It also recommends these people to search for local sport and fitness facilities that they can go along to in their ladies fitness wear and to contact local weight loss services.
