Many people dread donning their ladies fitness clothing and exercising as they find keeping fit tedious, but this does not have to be the case, one commentator has claimed.

Sara Vine wrote in a piece for the Times that there are far more thrilling options available to those seeking to improve their fitness than plodding along on a machine for hours each week.

"Fit young things will enjoy showing off their prowess in gruelling outdoor team sessions with former army trainers; or you can fulfil all your Lara Croft fantasies with kick-boxing and other martial art spin-offs," she explained.

Ms Vine went on to say that those who prefer gentler exercise can opt for power Pilates, which helps people to tone and strengthen their bodies.

Earlier this month, a YouGov survey conducted on behalf of the World Cancer Research Fund found that 30 per cent of people are put off being more physically active by the cost of gyms and leisure centres.
