Exercise 'helps people stay healthy for longer'

People can remain healthy for longer by donning their gym clothing and exercising regularly, Saga Magazine has claimed.

Emma Soames, editor at large for the magazine, said that many people who are in their 60s feel very good health-wise and they want to go on feeling this way.

"You want to do everything you can to increase your chances of a longer, healthy life and exercise very much does that," she said.

Ms Soames went on to say that exercise is good for heart health and it also lowers cholesterol and decreased the likelihood of chronic illness.

She said that exercise also keeps people, especially the over-60s, flexible and helps with mental health.

Ms Soames' comments follow the recent publication of research from Bupa called How are you Britain?.

This report revealed that the over-60s are fitter than ever and are much more likely to exercise than people in their 20s.
