Women who exercise in green settings in their ladies fitness clothing can overcome certain illnesses and ailments more easily than those who work out indoors, an expert has suggested.
Dr Eeva Karjalainen, of the Finnish Forest Research Institute in Metla, promoted the benefits of spending more time outdoors ahead of a session she is set to coordinate at the 2010 International Union of Forest Research Organization World Forestry Congress in Seoul.
She said that forests and other natural, green settings can strengthen the immune system while also reducing stress, improving mood and reducing anger and aggressiveness.
"Preserving green areas and trees in cities is very important to help people recover from stress, maintain health and cure diseases," she added.
Dr Karjalainen went on to suggest that money can be saved through promoting exercise in green settings, as it can improve people's working ability and reduce healthcare costs.
Back in May, research conducted by the University of Essex revealed that just five minutes of exercise outside can improve people's mood, self-esteem and mental health.
