Women who lose weight, perhaps by exercising regularly in ladies fitness clothing, have a boosted immunity and could live a longer life, a study has suggested.
Researchers from at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy atTufts University studied 46 overweight adults aged between 20 and 42 to come to this conclusion, the Tufts Journal reports.
These study participants were given a nutritionally-complete but calorie-restricted diet for six months.
They received a diet that included either ten or 30 per cent fewer calories than they would usually consume.
Both groups lost weight and boosted their immune response by between 30 and 50 per cent.
"If we see increased resistance to infection, that's very good evidence that we might be able to extend life," Simin Nikbin Meydani, director of the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts, told the journal.
Back in March, research from the University of Copenhagen and Bispebjerg Hospital in Denmark revealed that vitamin D plays a key role in boosting the immune system.
