Women exercising outdoors in their ladies sportswear should not rely on their make-up and moisturisers with SPF to provide them with full protection from the sun's rays, the British Skin Foundation has suggested.
Bevis Man, of the foundation, recommended people spend time in the shade between 11:00 and 15:00 on sunny days, as this is when the UV rays are strongest.
"If you are going to go out in the sun, use an actual sunscreen because that's what the product is there for: to filter out UVB and UVA radiation," he added.
Mr Man suggested that loose ladies fitness clothing should be worn when out exercising in the sun, including a comfortable t-shirt, a wide hat that protects the neck and ears and UV-protective sunglasses.
A new pill was launched recently that claims to help prevent the skin from burning.
In a study, participants who took the pill, called BioAstin, for two weeks could stay in the sun for up to 20 per cent longer than before.
