Exercise in gym clothing is a safe and effective treatment for those suffering with chronic fatigue syndrome or myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME), a study has revealed.
Researchers from Kings College London, the University London and theUniversity of Edinburgh looked at a number of different treatments for CFS/ME and assessed both their safety and efficacy.
Graded exercise therapy (GET) and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) were found to be the most effective.
The results of the study have been published today (February 18th) in general medical journal the Lancet.
Co-author of the study professor Trudie Chalder, from King's College London, said: "While there is still room for improvement, this is a real step forward in informing patients with CFS/ME which treatments can help to improve their health and ability to lead a more normal life."
Earlier this week, researchers from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in the US revealed that a particular form of exercise - walking - can prevent the worsening of a medical condition called peripheral artery disease.
