Exercise is"crucial"in heart attack rehab

It is "crucial" that women who have suffered a heart attack or have undergone cardiac surgery continue to exercise as part of their rehabilitation, according to recent research.

A new study has found that those who complete all of their rehabilitation sessions are less likely to die or suffer another heart attack within four years than those that do not attend all of their sessions, the Associated Press reported.

Speaking to the news agency, Dr Stanley Hazen, preventive cardiology and rehabilitation chief at the Cleveland Clinic, said that exercise is a crucial part of rehabilitation but "they don't need to be grimacing and jogging around the track."

"It can be just a brisk walk or swimming or a stationary bike. That's the key: find something you enjoy and are willing to do," he added.

The study was led by scientists at Duke University and was published online this week in the American Heart Association journal Circulation.

According to the NHS, exercise, which could include cycling in ladies fitness wear, can lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels as well as improving general heart health.
