Regular exercise, perhaps in ladies fitness clothing, is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of developing dementia, an expert in cognitive decline has claimed.
Dr Susanne Sorensen, head of research at the Alzheimer's Society, suggested that there are a number of ways in which people can make sure that their brains continue to function correctly.
"The best way to reduce risk of dementia is to take regular exercise, maintain a healthy weight, [eat] a healthy diet rich in fruit and vegetables and [ensure] that your blood pressure and cholesterol are checked regularly," she explained.
Her comments follow the publication of research conducted by the University of East Anglia, which revealed that stroke patients who suffer from an irregular heartbeat are twice as likely to develop dementia as their healthy counterparts.
The findings of this research, which analysed 15 studies involving more than 45,000 participants, were published this week in the journal Neurology.
