Women who want to lose weight can do so by reading food labels as well as donning their ladies fitness clothing and exercising regularly, a study has suggested.
The research, published in the Journal of Consumer Affairs, found that people who observe food labels and do not exercise are slightly more likely to lose weight than those who do take part in physical activity but do not pay attention to the contents of their food.
However, the most weight loss was achieved by those who did both of these things.
"By simply adding an exercise routine to their lifestyle regular food label readers can increase their chances of losing weight," a summary of the study states.
The research also found that women between the ages of 37 and 50 are more likely to read food labels than men.
Regular exercise not only aids weight loss, but the British heart Foundation claims it can also reduce blood pressure levels and, therefore, lower a person's risk of experiencing a heart attack.
