Exercise reduces colorectal 'cancer death risk'

Putting on some gym clothing and doing some exercise could help to reduce the risk of dying from colorectal cancer, new research has suggested.

More than half of the 668 male participants that took part in the study exercised an equivalent to one hour's walking at least six days a week, according to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute researchers.

Those undertaking moderate exercise were found 53 per cent more likely to be alive and free of disease than those that did less exercise.

Commenting on the findings, lead author of the Archives of Internal Medicine study Jeffrey Meyerhardt explained that this finding is consistent with previous research.

He added: "Moderate exercise has now been incorporated in some guidelines for colorectal cancer survivors and this new research should further reinforce to oncologists that they should discuss this in their survivorship plan."

Research conducted last month by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine indicated that breast cancer survivors that do weight training have a better body image and relationship satisfaction.
