Women who don their ladies fitness clothing and exercise regularly can reduce their risk of developing around 24 physical and mental health problems, a research review has claimed.
Published in the December issue of the International Journal of Clinical Practice, the review states that being physically active is the best lifestyle choice an individual can make to improve their health aside from giving up smoking.
The review was written by physiotherapist and lecturer Leslie Alford from the University of East Anglia, who reviewed 40 papers covering international research published between 2006 and 2010.
"Although the focus of my study was on men's health, the messages on physical activity are relevant to both sexes and all age groups," he said.
One of the health benefits that Mr Alford found exercise to be linked to was a decreased risk of coronary heart disease and ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke.
Earlier in the month, a presentation at the Ninth Annual American Association for Cancer Research Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research Conference claimed that exercise can also reduce a person's risk of developing endometrial cancer.
