Weight loss, which can be achieved through regular exercise in ladies fitness clothing, could reduce hot flushes in overweight and obese menopausal women, a study has suggested.
Researchers from the University of California came to this conclusion after completing a six-month, randomised, controlled trial involving 338 women.
The average age of the women was 53, while they were all overweight or obese and had urinary incontinence.
These subjects completed questionnaires to assess their bothersome hot flushes.
Of the participants, 226 underwent an intensive weight loss programme and the remaining112 were randomised to a control group.
The researchers found that those who lost weight and decreased their body mass indices and abdominal circumferences experienced an improvement in their hot flushes.
Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health recently published the results of a study which revealed that cycling and brisk walks are excellent forms of exercise for pre-menopausal women hoping to prevent weight gain.
