Women who suffer from stress can alleviate their symptoms through exercise, perhaps in their ladies gym clothing, an expert has suggested.

Neil Shah, director of the Stress Management Society, said that people who get into a severe emotional state can change this by "either expressing it verbally or [through] activity or exercise".

"Something [which] changes your physical state in turn will change your mental and emotional state," he went on to say.

Mr Shah's comments follow the publication of research from Medicash, which revealed that men are four times more likely than women to phone in sick due to work-related stress.

Some 3,000 workers were surveyed and 20 per cent of the men admitted to taking two sick days in the past month because of stress.

Work-induced stress is also causing men to drink more, with one in five confessing to needing an alcoholic beverage after most days at work.
