Many women like to don their ladies fitness clothing and work out to music, but discussions are currently underway to work out a charge for the use of music in fitness venues.
A consultation has launched by licensing company PPL in partnership with the Fitness Industry Association (FIA) to determine a fair and equitable tariff for the use of recorded music in exercise classes.
The consultation process requires input from fitness centre operators and instructors, and a confidential questionnaire is soon to be despatched.
Operators and instructors need to complete this and return it to the FIA via post or fill it in online and send it via email.
"This is a perfect example of partnership between an agency tasked with collecting licence fees and an industry which wants to meet its legal requirements but wants to pay a fair and reasonable rate," said David Stalker, executive director of the FIA.
Last month, Mark Walton-Cook wrote in the Daily Telegraph that people should listen to up-tempo Christmas songs this month while they exercise, as this will help to spur them on.
