Fitness programme for pregnant women launched in Bedfordshire

A fitness programme for pregnant women and those who have recently given birth is launching in Bedfordshire next week, it has been reported.

The four-week antenatal and prenatal programme is part of a national scheme called FitBack and Bumps aimed at getting women to put on their ladies fitness wear to exercise and share their pregnancy experience.

Classes at the Dunstable Leisure Centre will start on November 24th, according to Luton Today.

One of the main focuses of the programme is educating women on how to exercise safely during pregnancy.

According to FitBack and Bumps, only 15 per cent of women exercise to recommended levels during pregnancy, largely because they are worried that the exertion will harm their baby.

Specific focuses of the classes include strengthening core muscles to help reduce the incidence of back and pelvic pain.

The chartered physiotherapists are running the programme at leisure centres across the country and they are advising women to apply for a Health in Pregnancy Grant from the government, as this can be used to pay for their place on the programme.ADNFCR-2569-ID-19468900-ADNFCR
