Older women who want to improve their fitness should don their ladies fitness wear and try floor exercises and running, according to a personal trainer.
Yury Klimovitsky created an exercise programme for a 72-year old man after a trial and-error approach to finding the right fitness regime, the Boston Globe reported.
Mr Klimovitsky is a Ukrainian-born athlete who coached members of the Olympic athletics team in his home country before moving to the United States.
The exercise programme he designed for his older client does not involve machines such as treadmills or cross trainers, but employs the use of muscle-building rubber bands and medicine balls, floor exercises, sprints and hurdles.
Explaining why older people are becoming increasingly interested in donning their gym wear, Mr Klimovitsky said: "In many cases, they have time, they have money and they want to take care of themselves to be sure that they live longer and live happier, able to do more things they enjoy."
Jenifer Charette, of Somers Senior Center in America, recently encouraged older women through the Hartford Courant to don their ladies yoga clothing and attend a seniors-only yoga session.
