Women in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, are hoping that they will soon have the opportunity to don their ladies fitness clothing, as funding is being sought to build a brand-new gym in the town.
Chatteris is the only town in the Fenland district that does not have a council-run leisure centre, CambsTimes.co.uk reports.
On Thursday (October 21st), the district council's cabinet will be recommended to allocate £600,000 of funding to help build the centre at Cromwell Community College.
A report to the council states: "Fenland's leisure centres provide some excellent facilities and in recent years have been developed to improve customer satisfaction and footfall."
It goes on to say that there is "dissatisfaction" in Chatteris that there is no council-funded leisure facility for the local residents to use.
An all-weather pitch is currently being built at the college, and is due to be completed in June 2011.
Exercise, such as workouts at leisure centres, is good for overall health, but researchers from Dartmouth Medical School recently revealed that it can help people to overcome sleep disorders too.
