Gentle exercise in ladies fitness wear 'is good for arthritic women'

Low-impact exercise in ladies fitness wear, such as tai chi, walking and swimming, is beneficial for women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the Arthritic Association has suggested.

Researchers from the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota recentlyrevealed that the incidence of RA among women in the US increased by 2.5 per cent in each year from 1995 to 2007.

Lynda Scott-Williams, chief executive of the Arthritic Association, said that exercise is important but it should be "gentle".

However, she went on to suggest that while RA sufferers can lead "full and productive lives" it is important that they do not over-exert themselves in their ladies fitness wear.

"They … need to take care of themselves and recognise that they have limitations that they didn't have before the RA became diagnosed or evident," Ms Scott-Williams explained.

She recommended that RA sufferers include white fish in their diet, but warned against eating red meat, tomatoes and members of the nightshade family.
