Help on the way for osteoporosis patients unable to exercise in gym wear?

Osteoporosis patients unable to don their ladies fitness clothing and exercise could soon achieve new bone growth by taking a novel drug, according to the results of recent research.

Mechanical stress, such as exercise in ladies gym wear, promotes new bone growth and scientists have discovered precisely how this occurs.

Researchers will now use this knowledge to research and develop new therapies that can fool bones into thinking they are benefitting from exercise.

Co-author of the study Dr Christopher R Jacobs, from the department of mechanical engineering at Stanford University in California, said: "We hope that the mechanisms identified in this study can be exploited to develop novel treatments for bone loss and perhaps a large number of other diseases."

Around three million people in the UK have osteoporosis and over 230,000 fractures take place every year as a result, according to the NHS.

It encourages women to, where possible, take part in regular physical activity, perhaps in ladies fitness wear, as this helps to prevent a number of diseases, including heart disease, osteoporosis and many types of cancer.
