A campaign to get more people out of their houses and exercising in their men's and ladies fitness clothing has been launched by the British Equestrian Federation (BEF).
The Hoof it to Health campaign is encouraging people to take up horse riding as a fun and effective form of physical activity for people of any age.
"Horse riding can burn as many calories as jogging [and] tones and strengthens your core muscle groups," said Lynne Munro, chair of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Therapeutic Riding.
She went on to say that it is also a great way to improve general fitness and, at the same time, "enjoy the psychological benefits of being outdoors in partnership with a horse".
The BEF has teamed up with the Riding for the Disabled Association and Vauxhall City Farm to make the activity more accessible to those living in the heart of London with disabilities.
Last month, a review in the journal BMC Public Health claimed that exercising in natural outdoor environments, rather than indoors, can have a positive impact on a person's wellbeing.
