Women looking to don their ladies fitness wear and burn a great number of calories should consider taking part in hula hoop sessions.
Californian hula hoop expert Christabel Zamor told the Times' diet and fitness writer Peta Bee that the key to doing the exercise is to "gently thrust, don't rotate".
Ms Zamor said that if people obey this rule, most can master the exercise within just 90 seconds.
A ten-minute hula hooping session can burn as many as 100 calories, Ms Bee writes, but beginners burn even more as they use a greater number of muscles in an attempt to keep the hoop up.
Ms Zamor recommends that, at first, women don their ladies fitness clothing and have a go at the exercise on their own, with the aid of a book or DVD, for about ten minutes per day.
"It becomes addictive. I've even got my boyfriend hooping," she said.
Another form of exercise that is becoming increasingly popular is the slightly higher-octane roller derby.
Rebecca Newman, writing for the Daily Telegraph, claimed that this all-female race on roller-skates is both exhausting and exhilarating.
