Women across the UK may be donning their gym wear over the coming months as a survey has found the top new year's resolution to be improving physical appearance.

Goodsurgeonguide.co.uk quizzed 1,228 women and found that almost half (48 per cent) valued looking good in 2010 as more important than getting promoted at work or finding love.

Christiana Clogg, co-founder of goodsurgeonguide.co.uk, said: "I suppose that the reality of the matter is, success comes with confidence and if more women feel good about themselves they will ultimately be happier and attract love and success at work."

Of those who said their main aim was to look better in 2010, 51 per cent said they plan to get cosmetic surgery or some other aesthetic treatment.

Those who want to look better but do not want to go under the knife should try donning their ladies fitness wear and heading out of the door, as regular exercise is one of the most effective ways of shifting excess weight, according to the NHS.
