Intensity training 'is better for weight loss than jogging'

Women who want to lose weight should don their ladies gym clothing and take part in intensity training rather than long jogging sessions, an expert has claimed.

London-based personal trainer Greg Brookes told the Daily Mail that jogging can actually be damaging to the health, causing problems ranging from heart shrinkage to cellulite.

He recommended, instead, taking part in high-intensity training to strengthen the heart and lungs.

"It burns more calories, strengthens your heart and joints and increases your metabolism - and takes about ten minutes," he said.

Mr Brookes went on to explain that this type of training may not initially burn as many calories as a long, steady jog, but that it burns more over the following 24-hour period.

The personal trainer's views are supported by research published earlier in the year by the University of Exeter's School of Sport and Health Sciences.

This revealed that frequent bouts of sporadic activity could be just as beneficial to health as longer exercise sessions.
